Shooting Star

“If the idea of a paranormal mystery tickles your funny bone then this is definitely your book. In spades. Hidden Variables is like nothing you’ve ever read (in a good way). It’s very, very funny. The dialogue is particularly sharp. Bill Delaney is a fine writer – smart, creative, maybe a little sick in the head (in a good way).”
~ James Patterson, Author

"...a heady, absurd parable about the dying towns, media conglomerates, and dead-end freelance work that make up so much of the American landscape...a cerebral and amusing novel that revolves around a quantum mystery."

~ Kirkus Reviews

Foggy Landscape

Hidden Variables: A Quantum Comedy is about a town so forgotten by the rest of the world it disappears. Drops right off the space time continuum. Can't be googled. Bad for the tourist trade, but no one much ever came to Denison anyway, at least since the button factory left. The good news is that everyone in town now lives forever.

Raising a question about immortality: is it worth the trouble?

Anyway, it's just physics. Quantum physics, out of sight, out of mind, not to mention the good old First Law of Thermodynamics, matter can neither be created nor destroyed. When you fall off the grid, it all adds up. Matter matters. One thing leads to another, as Newton knew, and it's all relative, as Einstein said. God, angels, media moguls, fugitive priests, hapless cops, family dysfunction, state bureaucrats and our intrepid narrator, ex-TV reporter, denizen of the gig economy, and newly minted private investigator Patrick, nee' Padraig, O'Toole, who is searching for a killer in a town where homicide is impossible.

You can't know anything for sure. It's all just probability. Nothing can really be known, not to mention, well, nothing.

Which, when you think about it, is pretty funny.
